New Beginnings

January is a bleak time our vegetable garden..... not only does it lack any winter veg but its less than half built! Still, we have plenty of all ready prepared space, and enthusiasm, so are using the down-time to do some tea drinking and thinking.
So far we have built a bed for the fig tree, a seating area (well, we need to have somewhere to tea drink and think) and the herb garden. We made a large and flat-ish makeshift area that is rabbit proofed (pretty certain you will hear more about the critters in the coming months) which has housed the fruits of our labour for the last couple of years. There is plenty of space for pots too. But rather than banging on about how far we have come with the veg garden click over to have a mooch yourself: http://www.danylanfarm.co.uk/theveggiepatch
It is hard to remember what we inherited when we moved in, and how far we have come with the clearing, developing the new structure and the challenges associated with starting to grow our own fruit and veg. Actually if we really sit and think about it, some of the work has been little short of civil engineering rather than just working the land, but it is always hard to remember. So as an 'aide memoir' we decided to use the blog to map our progress across 2019.
Feel free to follow along and share in our excitement and frustration (and a whole raft of other emotions).
P.S Today's emotion is "irritated" owing to a mountain sheep letting herself in, jumping the fence into the veg garden and eating the tops off the crocus (crocus sativus - saffron). It is their first year in and they are likely to be blind this season..... but still!
